Conditions for Participation in the Competition:
Application for participation in the Biennial
The main theme of the UG Architecture Student Biennial:
"Freedom for the City".
Acceptance of works will commence from June 10, 2024.
Biennale Jury:
• International professional jury;
• Public opinion
Architectural works will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
o form;
o function;
o innovation;
o Conceptuality;
o adaptation to reality.
At the Biennale, the works will be considered according to the following nominations:
• architecture;
• Urbanism;
• restoration/historical heritage;
• landscape architecture;
• interior design;
• Furniture
Architecture:
This category encompasses student projects of private or public buildings completed within the last two years, provided they have not been previously entered in other architectural competitions. There are no scale limitations in any exhibition category. Common architectural elements will be assessed in this category, with no consideration given to projects from other categories. Student project authors are required to acknowledge the professors or teachers who assisted them in project development.
Urbanism:
This category encompasses residential or public/community student projects created within the last two years in the fields of territorial planning, urban planning, and urban architecture. It includes the integration of human settlements and natural protected areas on a regional scale, as well as the development and regulation of urban spaces, planning of public transport and other large infrastructural units, mixed-type urban complexes, and high-quality public spaces on an urban scale.
Authors of projects must acknowledge the professors or teachers who assisted them in project development.
Landscape architecture
This category involves private or public student projects created within the last two to three years focused on landscape design of the natural environment. It includes planning, design, management, conservation, and restoration of private or public spaces that meet the requirements of this category.

Restoration and Historical Heritage:
This category focuses on historical projects related to community development in urban and suburban architectural typologies, which have not previously participated in other architectural competitions. Evaluation in this category will consider the approach to cultural heritage preservation and restoration efforts applied to the building. Projects may involve building restoration, changes in profile, space recreation, conservation, and restoration efforts.
Authors of projects must acknowledge the professors or teachers who assisted them in project development.
Interior Design:
This category comprises private or public interior design student projects completed within the last two to three years, which have not been entered in similar competitions before. There are no scale limitations in this category.

Furniture
This category includes small architectural forms, furniture designs, and similar creations intended for residential and public spaces, all created within the last two to three years. These projects are created by students. Authors of projects must acknowledge the professors or teachers who assisted them in project development.
Conference
• This category encompasses all student-wide or unpublished academic research within the field of architecture or construction, exploring past, present, or future contexts and circumstances.
• It also includes undergraduate or graduate degree research projects completed within the last two years. Authors of projects must acknowledge the professors or teachers who assisted them in project development.
• Diploma works that do not employ the research method should be categorized under other sections, such as architecture, urbanism, restoration and cultural heritage, or landscape architecture.
• A conference will be held at the University of Georgia on November 14-15, 2024, corresponding to relevant sections of the biennial nominations.
• For conference schedule details, please refer to the "Conference" section on the Biennale website.
• Professionals are welcome to participate in the conference alongside students.
Right to Participate:
Each student can submit several individual or group projects in different categories.
• The student must provide a letter of approval from their university or faculty confirming that their academic and/or professional level meets the Biennale's criteria.
• All projects submitted within the framework of the UG Architecture Student Biennale will be assessed for compatibility with exhibition standards. Accordingly, the Biennale organizer and the Council of Professionals reserve the right to exclude any project from participation in the exhibition, and their decisions are final and not subject to appeal.
Important Terms:
• Projects and works submitted should not serve any commercial purpose.
• Projects submitted, supported by, or executed for private companies or public organizations will not be admitted to this Biennale. Only projects for academic purposes will be accepted.
• Advertising any project or work while it is participating in the UG Architecture Student Biennale is prohibited. Any violation of this rule will result in the project/work being disqualified from the Biennale exhibition. The author's status as a participant or finalist, as well as any corresponding awards, will be revoked.
• If any project or work is found to be partially or entirely plagiarized, the author will be immediately expelled from the UG Architecture Student Biennale. Sanctions will be applied in accordance with international standards for the protection of intellectual property rights.
• Digital copies of projects/works become part of the Biennale database as soon as they are submitted to the Biennale organizer.
Submissions for the UG Architecture Student Biennale will be accepted until October 15, 2024.
Those interested in participating in the architectural competition must submit their competition materials via the "Participation" sub-menu - "Registration":
• Submission Requirements: Only files submitted through the registration platform with appropriate specifications and complete accompanying information will be accepted.
• Materials to be Submitted: City planning, architectural, design projects, technical drawings, realized volumes, exteriors, interiors, or any related details, accompanied by photo-material (maximum resolution 2000x2000 pixels, in JPEG format), and a project explanatory card (maximum 2500 characters, in PDF format).
Features of the visual material:
• 10-15 photos in JPG format, with a resolution of 300 dpi, not exceeding 2000x2000 pixels in size, and each file not exceeding 6MB in size.
- 1 photo to be included in the biennale report: 1 image of the drawing or any element of the project in JPEG format. This will serve as the visual material for presenting your projects in subsequent biennale publications, the biennale catalog, website, and other media.
- Optional: Animated image.
- Personal photo-portrait (600x600 pixels).

- Keywords (5-7 words or phrases).
- Main text of the article (including introduction, research results, conclusions).
- List of references.
- Personal photo-portrait (600x600 pixels).

The project will be featured on the Biennale's website and can be accessed through a unique QR code assigned to it.
Stages of selection of competitive works:
The process of selecting contestants' works involves several stages:
Review of projects.
Selection of the top 3 projects in each nomination.
Validation of the best works by the community.
Awarding of the winning nominees at a prestigious ceremony on November 16, 2024, at the University of Georgia in Tbilisi.
During the award ceremony, the best projects selected by public opinion will be announced according to the respective nominations.
Applications for participation in the UG Architecture Student Biennale competition are reviewed by the professional council of the competition.
- The contestants' works will be evaluated by a professional jury, in accordance with the competition's conditions and compliance with the technical requirements.
- Contestants' works will also be assessed by the public, in accordance with the competition's conditions and technical requirements.
The evaluations from both the professional and public jury are automatically tallied and recorded separately.
The UG Architecture Student Biennale Award includes:
- A small sculpture featuring the Biennale symbol.
- A laureate certificate.
- A prize from project supporters or sponsors.
Attention, contestants:
- Any nomination for the UG Architecture Student Biennale competition will be automatically disqualified if the number of submitted projects does not exceed three.
- Please ensure the authors' identities are clearly specified before posting the project on the website.
- At the UG Architecture Student Biennale Awards Ceremony, stands representing the best projects will be displayed.
All winning projects will be printed by the Biennale organizer.
- The organizer commits to arranging the exhibition of the winning projects of the UG Architecture Student Biennale.
- The format and material will be carefully chosen to allow for both indoor and outdoor exhibitions, as part of various events of the International Biennale of Architecture.
- The organizer of the UG Architecture Student Biennale "Freedom for the City" reserves the right to exclude any project from the exhibition to maintain high visual quality, compatibility with the exhibition's format and standards.
- Nominees will receive advance notice to prepare demonstration material for printing for the exhibition (banner design - project banner; actual size, resolution, format).
- The winning projects will be showcased on the Biennale's website, the University of Georgia's website, and will receive coverage on social media, TV networks, and will be featured in the Biennale catalog.
